KIT2 (09/2022 – 08/2025)

KIT2 uses AI to support emergency physicians in real-time, improving medical service delivery and optimizing resource allocation.

Motivation

The successful introduction of the emergency physician system in Aachen demonstrates secure and rapid medical service delivery while optimizing the use of scarce physician resources. As the concept expands across Germany, demand for technical support increases due to rising parallel interventions. AI offers the potential for support in both individual medical and tactical aspects.

Goals and Approach

The overarching goal of KIT2 is to enhance service quality and patient safety. A three-part AI-based decision support system for medical, tactical, and strategic choices in emergency physician deployments is being developed, utilizing data from previous deployments. Emphasis is placed on ethical, legal, and societal aspects, including system usability and acceptance among users and patients. The system’s operational suitability will be assessed with associated partners.

Innovations and Perspectives

For the first time, AI is employed for cooperative management of emergency medical interventions. Modules are linked for diagnostic-medical and strategic decisions to provide best-practice guidance to emergency physicians for swift execution.
